Robert L. Mellen, III

Robert L. "Rob" Mellen, III, has a long history with Dr. Phillips Charities.  During his more than 30 year legal career with the Akerman Senterfitt law firm, Mellen regularly represented Dr. Phillips, Inc., the firm's oldest client, and served as client liaison.  Now, as President and CEO of Dr. Phillips Charities, he leads and manages operations and activities.  He also serves as a Director of both The Dr. P. Phillips Foundation and Dr. Phillips, Inc.

 Mellen's community involvement includes or has included the Dr. P. Phillips School of Real Estate as a board member; the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission as a member of its board of directors and corporate council; the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce as a member of its board and executive committee of the board; Junior Achievement as a board member; Orlando Neighborhood Improvement Corporation as a board member and past chairman; Florida Citrus Sports; Committee of 100 of Orange County; Leadership Orlando; and First Baptist Church of Orlando.

 

Mellen, who has been associated with some of Florida's largest financial transactions as a corporate, real estate and banking attorney, served as managing shareholder of two of Akerman Senterfitt's major offices (Orlando and Miami), headed its banking transactional practice and was a member of the firm's board of directors.  During his legal career, he was recognized professionally numerous times with such honors as Woodward/White's The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA Top Banking & Finance Attorneys, Florida Trend's Legal Elite, Florida Super Lawyers and Leading American Attorneys.  At 38, Mellen became one of the youngest board members of a major national bank in the U.S. when he was named to the board of directors of SunTrust Bank N.A. He continues to serve on the SunTrust Bank/Central Florida board.

 

Mellen is a graduate of Rollins College and the University of Florida College of Law where he received the Order of the Coif.
