As Board Chair of both The Dr. P. Phillips Foundation and Dr. Phillips Inc., J. A. "Jim" Hinson’s experience with the Dr. Phillips Charities spans more than half a century. Hinson began his career with Dr. Phillips Inc. in 1957 as a bookkeeper and subsequently held numerous positions within the organization, including President at the time of his retirement in 2008.
Hinson’s leadership is demonstrated by extensive community involvement throughout Central Florida. Some highlights include the Committee of 100 of Orange County where he served as president for over 25 years, stepping down in the summer of 2008 but continuing as a director; Junior Achievement where he is a former director and previously served as treasurer and vice president; Ivanhoe Foundation where he is a director and former president; the YMCA where he is a former member of the Metropolitan YMCA board of directors, as well as a former board member of the Dr. P. Phillips YMCA where he served on the development committee; and the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks where he is former vice president of the local chapter. In addition he served as a board member and president of United Arts, president and chairman of Florida Citrus Sports, and three years on the Orange County Commission for Children.
Hinson has been recognized for his leadership with the Jack Holloway Star of Gratitude Award; Junior Achievement Bronze and Silver Leadership Awards; Junior Achievement Henry Cragg Volunteer Award; Orange County Law Day – Liberty Bell Award; the Junior Achievement Spirit of Achievement Award, the Central Florida YMCA John Sterchi Award, and the Association of Fund Raising Professionals H. Clifford Lee Award for Professional Advancement.
Hinson began his higher education at Southern Technical Institution, attended the University of Georgia, Orlando Junior College and Rollins College and is a licensed general contractor.
